Cleveland Baseball's Unforgettable Games

This website will describe some of the most significant games Cleveland's major league baseball teams have played. Most of you probably know that Cleveland's rowdy Spiders competed rather sucessfully in the National League through 1898. In 1899, the team was robbed of their players and endured one last unprecedented and disasterous season before passing into oblivion. In 1900 Cleveland recieved a team in the new American League. It was subject to the NL draft so it was a minor league. But in 1901, the AL became the second major league. Cleveland's blue-clad team was called the "Bluebirds" or the "Blues." In 1902, they were also called the "Bronchos". Beginning in 1903 with the acquisition of Napoleon Lajoie, the team was called the "Naps". In 1915, they became the "Indians".

Most of the games covered here were found in the book by John Phillips called Remember When?. All the books by John I've seen are about Cleveland baseball past. He has a lot of books, so if you like or even just curious about Cleveland baseball especially from over 50 years ago, his books are for you. You can find them at the Cleveland Public Library downtown or you can write to John at John Phillips, CPC, 8105 MacArthur Blvd., Cabin John, Md 20818. You'll be so glad you did.
